Vasart Paperweights YB001-0020

Ysart Brothers Glass 1946 to 1956

This was the first Vasart period. The paperweights are identified by matching to weights that can be proven to have been made in this period. Identifiers: Circular Vasart label, Ysart Bros. etched signature, Made in England etched signature. Does not fluoresce blue in shortwave UV. Canes used during the Monart period were also used by Vasart. Please refer to KevH’s site on the links page for details of ongoing research.

Catherine Ysart, widow of Vincent Ysart confirmed to me that the etched signatures were replaced by the black and silver label when Vasart Glass Limited was set up in 1956. It is likely that some weights made during the transition had both signature and the new label as production was not affected by the name change.

Contributions: If you have some weights that you would like to share with the collecting community through these pages, please provide at the minimum a JPG picture of high resolution and a picture of any marks or label, plus height and diameter. Ideally, we would like photos showing both the profile and base views, and indication of how they fluoresce under Long and Short Wave UV. This will improve everyones knowledge and possibly the methods of dating.

This weight is attributed to Salvador Ysart and also has a darker glass that suggests possible Monart period. As yet there is insufficient knowledge to date this, and similar qualities are found in other weights attributed to Ysart Brothers period. It is included here as this catalogue only lists Monart period against Paul Ysart. Very similar to Y cane weights but no Y cane, was previously on that page as YX001.
