Museum Fund Appeal

This website will be transferred to the Perth Museum & Art Gallery in Perth Scotland, in order to establish a permanent home and preserve the efforts of all contributors for future generations.

Additionally, it is desirable to create a Fund that will provide the Museum with financial support for the site’s future maintenance. A sum of £30,000 would be ideal, but £5,000 would be a good interim target to achieve by the time of the handover.

It is proposed to set up this Fund as a Trust, with the income from it paid directly to the Museum. The income would be used to pay for the hosting, upkeep of the URL, and other direct costs. Any surplus would have a specified usage:

1. Grants to qualified researchers who provide new material for the site.
2. Upgrading of the site as the internet improves and screen quality demands larger images.
3. Remaining surplus returned to the Fund. A ceiling would be set for the Fund and once reached, any further surplus could be used by the Museum as appropriate.

Exact details will be worked out if the Fund proposal proves viable. In the event that sufficient donations are not forthcoming, the amount collected and pledged would be donated to the Museum directly to manage the site in the spirit of such a Fund.

Before the transfer can be made, the website needs a complete ‘facelift’ and all the supporting files must be organised in a structured way to make its future management completely straightforward. This task is now well underway and I hope to have it ready in time for handover at the Glass Conference in August, 2005.
