Ysart and Scottish Glass Gathering 2005

August 6th-7th, 2005

Perth Museum and Art Gallery, 78 George Street, Perth, Scotland, PH1 5LB.

This is a two day event on Saturday 10 am – 5 pm and on Sunday 1 pm - 4.30 pm. We hope to hold an informal get-acquainted session on the Friday evening, a dinner on the Saturday evening, and possibly another activity on the Sunday morning.

Speakers who have confirmed are:
Saturday:
Ian Turner (Monart), Kevin Holt (Ysart Paperweights), Dave Moir (Vasart & Strathearn Glassmaker), and Catherine Rae (Daughter of Vincent Ysart).

Sunday:
Brian Blench (The leading Scottish glass researcher), Peter Holmes (Paperweight master, trained by PY), and Ray Metcalfe (Paperweight dealer).

The talks will not address ‘basic’ information on glass, but rather present original and divergent views on Ysart glass in particular and on Scottish glass in general.

The cost for the event is £25, The memento will cost £90 and the dinner on Saturday night £20 per person. An auction in support of the Ysart Scottish Glass Fund will be held after the dinner.

The Ysart Scottish Glass Fund

I intend to donate the website and URL www.ysartglass.com to Perth Museum and Art Gallery probably at this event, however, I expect I will stay involved for the forseeable future, at least via the forum.

It would also be desirable to establish a Museum Fund for upkeep of the site, future research and expansion. A sum of £30,000 invested would allow for an annual grant of about £1,000 - more than enough. Any pledges for contributions/suggestions would be welcomed. Legal advice would be needed to set this up -- any Scottish lawyers willing to help?

Specifically, the funds might be used to pay for webspace and URL upkeep, then to fund new research by Students, Schools and Colleges, Glass historians etc., and finally any surplus might go towards new glass purchases by the Museum. Another fundraiser might be making ten extra of the mementos to be sold by auction. Can we raise enough to get such a Fund started? So far £300 has been pledged.
